BAUBAU, KOMPAS.com - Merpati Airlines (MNA) opened a new route in Indonesia’s eastern region from Baubau to Makassar in South Sulawesi. Commissioner of PT. Merpati Nusantara Airlines Muh Said Didu said here Thursday the company will use its MA 60 plane with a 54 seating capacity.
"In the initial stages, we planned four flights a week from Betoambari airport and Sultan Hasanuddin airport in Makassar," he said.
He also said he was ready to establish a partnership with the Baubau administration in operating the aircraft to boost the economic growth in the region.
"We will facilitate the transportation of highly valued natural resources from and to other regions," he said.
Baubau Mayor MZ Amirul Tamim expressed his high appreciation to Merpati for the Baubau flights. He said right now three airline companies are operating from Baubau to other regions, including Ekspres Air, Wings Air and now Merpati Nusantara Airlines.
